The Alta Animal Hospital Story

Alta Animal Hospital was founded in the 1980's as a single doctor practice operating in a small clinic located on South Main. Dr. Eric Krasa was soon joined by Dr. Stephen Fairchild who had a deep love for animals and a vision of a veterinary hospital that treats pets with the same level of medical care and attention given to human patients.

It was their insight and dedication to veterinary medicine that has brought Alta Animal Hospital to where it is today - a full-service facility offering progressive medicine and compassionate care for pets throughout Pocatello and surrounding communities.

Alta Animal Hospital has grown immensely since the mid 1980's. After 15 years in the building located on South Main, Dr. Fairchild designed and built Alta's current facility in 2000, which is located at 1601 Bannock Hwy. This location was chosen because of the great access to the Greenway located directly behind the clinic. It is a great place to bring your pets and enjoy the trails or just have a picnic with your family.

Our new facility has been vital to offering advanced medical care for many pets and owners. Alta utilizes three exam rooms for both dogs and cats. We offer comprehensive and preventative health care, a full surgery suite, compete dental services, radiography (x-rays), a full pharmacy, on-site boarding facilities, a variety of Scient Diet pet foods and prescription foods, and retail items. We are available at any time for guided tours of the hospital.

Today Alta is headed by Dr. Kirsten Nickisch, who has been with the practice since 2001 and Dr. Sheena Haney, who joined Alta in 2010. Both Doctors Nickisch and Haney have the same philosophy as Dr. Fairchild and stand behind Alta's Mission Statement, "Alta Animal Hospital exists to provide kind, compassionate, friendly, and thorough medical and surgical care of dogs and cats with an emphasis on preventative and early detection medicine, while at the same time, keeping in mind and in action the concerns and desires of the pets' owners."
